StepOver Supports the Sequestration of 318 Metric Tons of CO2e Through Rainforest Conservation in Uganda

Based on our current carbon footprint, StepOver is making a voluntary climate protection contribution for 2026 to support the sequestration of 318 metric tons of CO2e through the PRIMAKLIMA project “Rainforest with a Future” in Uganda.

StepOver has been supporting PRIMAKLIMA’s climate protection projects since 2008, and since 2024, these contributions have been based on an annual Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) assessment of our Stuttgart office. For the year 2026, our climate protection contribution amounts to 318 metric tons of CO2e—calculated from the current CCF assessment, which serves as the basis for the current fiscal year.

The CO2 Footprint at a Glance

The basis for this is our corporate carbon footprint for the Stuttgart location , calculated in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol with external technical support from wecologic. The assessment covered Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3. In total, this amounts to approximately 318 metric tons of CO2e (exactly: 317.9 metric tons).

Where do the emissions come from?

The vast majority of our emissions do not originate at the site itself, but further upstream in the supply chain: during the manufacturing of the components for our signature pads—electronics, displays, housings, and accessories. This is typical for a hardware company like StepOver and, at the same time, shows us where the greatest potential for reduction lies: in material selection, product lifespan, and supplier selection.

What We’re Doing Ourselves to Reduce Emissions

In addition to our contribution to climate protection, we are continuously working to prevent emissions at the source. At our Stuttgart location, we use green electricity and control heating and air conditioning on a room-by-room basis according to demand. Our signature pads are designed for long durability and reparability; we rely on recyclable components sourced as locally as possible with short transport routes; and our packaging system has been further optimized to reduce the use of additional filler material. Working from home and video conferencing also reduce our employees’ commuting and travel distances.

Our Contribution to Climate Protection: Rainforest Conservation in Uganda

In addition to these in-house measures, we voluntarily support the PRIMAKLIMA project “Rainforest with a Future” around Kibale National Park in Uganda. The project combines reforestation with the long-term protection of existing rainforest areas, thereby contributing to CO2 sequestration and the preservation of local biodiversity. Our commitment is registered under the PRIMAKLIMA seal number PK-DE-00780.

We are contributing to the global climate protection goal and supporting the sequestration of 318 metric tons of CO2 through PRIMAKLIMA’s certified climate protection project ‘Rainforest with a Future’ in Uganda.

The level of our commitment is based on the emissions from our Stuttgart location as determined in our carbon footprint assessment. Further background information can be found on our partner page at PRIMAKLIMA.

What’s next?

We continuously analyze our carbon footprint to identify reduction potential—particularly in the materials and components of our signature pads, which account for the largest share of our emissions. Our climate protection contribution to PRIMAKLIMA remains a complementary, voluntary component of our commitment, on which we report transparently every year.
