Digital Signatures in the SAP Environment for Tire and Auto Service
The Pneuhage Unternehmensgruppe is consistently driving forward the digitization of its service and administrative processes. With the introduction of StepOver GmbH’s electronic signature solution, a key milestone was reached: paper-based signature processes were successfully replaced by an integrated, SAP-compatible solution.
Paper-based processes as the starting point
The Pneuhage Group operates in the tire and automotive service sector through its three retail organizations: Pneuhage Reifendienste, Ehrhardt, and First Stop. At the start of the project, no form of electronic signature existed. Workshop orders, delivery notes, and documents for tire storage and retrieval were created, signed, and archived entirely on paper. This involved a significant amount of manual work for the branches and their employees.
Electronic signatures as an end-to-end SAP process in the sales area
With the introduction of electronic signatures, Pneuhage has created a seamless, digital process that is controlled directly from the SAP system and actively involves both customers and employees. The foundation for this is StepOver’s network-compatible signature solution featuring the duraSign Pad NG 10, which is specifically designed for use in the sales area.
The new process begins directly in SAP: workshop orders, delivery notes, and documents for tire storage and retrieval are generated by the system and transferred to the duraSign Pad NG 10 for signature. Customers sign the documents digitally on-site—intuitively, transparently, and without any media discontinuity. After signing, the documents are automatically and audit-proof returned to SAP, archived there, and are immediately available for subsequent processes.
For customers, this means a modern, digital interaction right at the counter. Documents no longer need to be handed out in paper form or sent later; instead, they are available digitally. This makes processes faster, more traceable, and more service-oriented.
There are also clear internal benefits: the manual effort required for printing, filing, and archiving is largely eliminated. Signed documents are immediately available in SAP— —which reduces processing times and improves the quality of documentation. At the same time, existing folder structures are being gradually replaced by digital SAP archives. With e-signature, Pneuhage has thus taken the first, yet decisive, step toward digitizing the sales floor.
Facts and Figures:
- Project start: Q1 2025
- First PoC within a few weeks and rollout: Q3 2025
- 35,900 electronically signed documents within a few months
- 75 of over 160 branches are already using e-signatures in production (as of Feb. 2026)
- Full rollout to all branches planned by June 30, 2026
- Target: over 2 million documents signed electronically per year
- Planned expansions: Extension to documents outside of SAP as well as all other SAP documents

Conclusion: Sustainable digitalization with a strong partner
With the introduction of StepOver’s electronic signature solution, the Pneuhage Group has taken an important step toward end-to-end process digitization. The SAP-integrated e-signature with the duraSign Pad NG 10 is now firmly established in day-to-day branch operations, designed to be scalable, and forms the foundation for further digital expansion from the showroom to the workshop.
In addition to the technical solution, Uli Schmied, Regional Sales Manager for Bavaria at Pneuhage, particularly highlights the collaboration with StepOver: “The introduction of e-signature tablets in our sales region in Bavaria has not only noticeably made our employees’ work easier and improved customer service, but has also saved on paper and toner—a win for both efficiency and the environment.”
The project thus impressively demonstrates how modern technology, stable processes, and a reliable provider together create measurable added value today and with a clear eye toward the coming years of digitalization.
